About Shi Jun
AI Automation Engineer · Tech Ops Enablement across APAC
Systems architect. Quiet contributor. Building since 2008.
I started building automated systems at 18 in a polytechnic library, watching a script mine virtual ore while I studied. By 21, the income from game automation and hardware reconditioning meant I didn't need a job for financial survival. I wanted one for learning.
That changed everything. I've spent 15 years since then choosing interesting problems over titles and salary. The work I do in my current role - coordinating operations across APAC, building automation that's recovered 250+ hours annually for senior management - I do because it's genuinely interesting, not because I need the paycheck.
This portfolio documents that journey and methodology. Not a job application. Not a consultant pitch. Just 15 years of systems thinking, written down.

Timeline: 2008 → 2026
Origins: Game Automation & Hardware Reconditioning
Built automated farming systems for online game economies at 18, generating SGD 2K/month. Simultaneously bought and repaired broken gaming consoles for arbitrage profit. Learned that money could be systematic - automated, not just earned.
Singapore Polytechnic
Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Specialized in Technical Business and Power Systems. Formal foundation for what I'd been building informally since school.
Sales & Service Engineer - Industrial Automation
First corporate role in industrial automation. Delivered technical training across APAC, solved "impossible" technical problems, created customizations that became standard product offerings. Learned how corporate operations actually worked.
Nanyang Technological University
Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. Final Year Project: tourism app for Singapore using Ionic, formally published. University formalized what I'd learned informally over a decade.
Engineer - Medical Devices & Distribution
Applied teenage sourcing skills (hardware reconditioning) at corporate scale. Delivered projects under budget through strategic vendor negotiation. Learned GxP-adjacent thinking in regulated environments.
E-Commerce Launch
Launched consumer electronics business on Amazon, Shopee, and Lazada. Built automation from day one: multi-platform order consolidation, hardware print server for label printing, automated fulfilment workflows. Now generates SGD 100–200K annually with ~10 hours/week attention.
Homelab Infrastructure
Production-grade self-hosted systems: Plex, Nextcloud, Pi-hole, Node-RED, n8n, Immich, Docker, Tailscale, Caddy. Personal R&D lab where ideas are tested before enterprise deployment. Every major enterprise automation originated here.
Automation Engineer - Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
DeltaV and Siemens automation systems in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Zero unplanned downtime through proactive monitoring. Learned GxP compliance as system design constraint. SOPs and change control at the highest regulatory standard.
COVID Crisis - SGD 500K Recovery
Family-run electronics trading enterprise faced supply chain collapse. In 6 weeks: rebuilt e-commerce infrastructure, sourced alternative suppliers across China and Southeast Asia, restructured fulfilment from B2B retail to D2C. SGD 500K additional revenue from March–August 2020.
Senior Regional Technical Operation and Quality Engineer - Medical Technology / Pharma
Architected automation eliminating 70% of manual data processing across APAC RMA operations. Recovered 250+ hours annually of senior management time. Built mobile SAP verification tool (Excel + phone browser) with 100% adoption. Standardized processes across APAC. 0.01% ongoing maintenance on automation systems.
Real Estate Salesperson License (Singapore)
Obtained professional license in real estate. Purpose: expand domain knowledge, learn different compliance framework, understand negotiation from a new angle. Not a career switch - continuous learning philosophy in practice.
Portfolio Launch
Documenting 15 years of methodology. Still fully employed in my current role and enjoying the work. This portfolio is knowledge sharing, not job hunting.
Work as craft, not career
Most career advice is written for people who need the money. I removed that constraint at 21. That created a different optimization problem: do interesting work, build excellent systems, leave things better than you found them.
I'm not climbing ladders or collecting titles. I coordinate across across APAC not because I'm ambitious but because the coordination problem is genuinely interesting. The automation I build isn't to get promoted - it's because watching a system eliminate 250 hours of annual manual work is satisfying in a way that can't be faked.
This portfolio is the documentation of that approach. Everything I've built since 2008 follows the same principles - different domain, different scale, same methodology.
Get in touch
If you have an interesting operational problem - one that probably involves some combination of messy processes, regional complexity, and not enough automation - I'd like to hear about it.
